Barbara Blays, I am originally from Ghana. I moved to Canada about 22 years ago. I am proud mother of three beautiful children; I live in Nova scotia with my partner and 3 our kids. I received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson University in 2013, (now known as Toronto Metropolitan University), I am a Certified Diabetes Educator, hold master’s degree in healthcare quality improvement from Queens University. I have been working at IWK Health for the past 12 years. My experience as a bedside nurse has been around Women’s and Newborn care. I am currently Advance Support Lead for internationally Educated Nurses at IWK Health. Additionally, I am Co Director for Black Nurses Association of Nova Scotia. I am an active member of UACWA and mentor students at Dal school of Nursing. Recipient of Nigel Williams award, Doren Preston award, Canadian Nurses Foundation Scholarship, and IWK staff award. I am deeply passionate about advocating for resources for marginalized individuals living with Diabetes.
