Our History

The Black Nurses Association of Nova Scotia (BNANS) was founded in 2019 to create a unified voice and safe space for Black nurses and nursing students across the province. Its creation was driven by the need to address systemic barriers, provide mentorship, celebrate the contributions of Black nurses and nursing students, as well as advocate for collective career advancement of Black nurses and nursing students in Nova Scotia.

Since its founding, BNANS has grown into a strong provincial network that promotes professional development, community engagement, and health equity. Through partnerships, educational programs, and leadership opportunities, BNANS continues to empower its members and positively shape healthcare delivery in Nova Scotia.
