The Black Nurses Association of Nova Scotia (BNANS) is a professional organization that brings together Black nurses and nursing students across Nova Scotia. BNANS serves as a platform for advocacy, mentorship, professional development, and community engagement, ensuring that Black nurses are empowered to thrive in their careers while making meaningful contributions to healthcare delivery.

Mission and Vision Statement

Our Mission: To engage, support, and empower Black nurses and nursing students in advocating and advancing health equity and system changes in Nova Scotia. 

Our Vision: To have representation and career advancement in all domains of Nursing for Black nurses and nursing students in Nova Scotia.

Our Values

BNANS is guided by values that emphasize strengthening our community and creating pathways for growth and excellence for Black nurses and nursing students in Nova Scotia through leadership, collaboration, and advocacy.

Leadership Team

BNANS is led by dedicated professionals with diverse backgrounds and rich experiences in nursing:

  • Eunice Ojeabulu – President: BSN, RN, with over 30 years of nursing experience and a passion for mentoring the next generation.
  • Josephine Muxlow – Governance: RN, MS, CPMHN (C), FCAN, retired Clinical Nurse Specialist with over 50 years of nursing experience with a strong advocacy and system leadership background.
  • Damilola Iduye, RN, MN, MPH, PhD (c) – Governance
  • Barbara Blays – Director of Finance: MSHQ, CDE, RN, BScN. Advance Support Lead for internationally Educated Nurses at IWK Health.
  • Tatiana Clarke – Director of Communications and Student Engagement: RN, Holistic Nursing, passionate about emotional wellbeing and mindfulness for nurses.
  • Sally Aidoo – Assistant Director of Communications and Student Engagement: RN, with over a decade of experience, committed to supporting patients and colleagues.
  • Olayinka Olaolopin – Event Coordinator.
